Principal's Message January 19-23
Hello Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary!
It has been a chilly week with foggy mornings and cold and sunny afternoons. Lovely. I hope all Panthers have been enjoying our Winter sunshine.

I’d like to begin by congratulating our Junior Boys Basketball team. The team finished in 1st place at last week’s 吃瓜大本营 Classic Tournament. Way to go Panthers!

I would also like to congratulate our amazing LTSS Dance Program. Last week our students hosted an afternoon recital for many of our Associate school’s grade 7 students, and then an evening performance for our LTSS families and friends. Both shows were a great success with our very talented students showcasing their skills and creativity. Well done!

Congratulations to our Accounting 11 students! They just completed a Personal Finance course and learned about managing their future finances. After completing the course, they received a certificate from Junior Achievement BC.

We are now in the final week of regularly scheduled classes for Semester #1. Our school year is half completed… and a new learning journey is just around the corner. As always, time at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary moves very fast and the lives of our students and staff are full of new learning, new challenges and new success stories. I wish all students the very best on their final assessments and projects this week. Make us proud Panthers!
As Friday is the final day of our regular bell schedule for Semester #1, students and parents/guardians are reminded that Monday, January 26th and Tuesday, January 27th are Semester Completion Days. Although regular classes will not be in session, our school is open for students. Our staff will be available to support students and help them complete missing assignments and/or assessments. Students are highly encouraged to take advantage of this final learning opportunity and schedule appointments with their teachers for these days. We hope to see numerous students at school on Monday and Tuesday in order to succeed in all of their courses.
Students in grade 12 are also reminded that we will be running the Literacy 12 Provincial Assessment Exam on Monday and Tuesday. All students must complete this Provincial Ministry of Education requirement in order to graduate. It is very important that Grade 12’s do not miss their scheduled session. Please see the schedule posted on the 2nd floor.
On Wednesday, January 28th, the 2nd semester begins at Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary. By now, all students should have logged into their MyEdBC Portal to download their 2nd semester schedule of classes. Please see the office if you are unable to log in. We will not be distributing hard copies. We will be following our regular bell schedule on Wednesday.
I wish all students and staff the very best on this exciting new beginning. A new semester of classes, with new challenges and new learning goals, brings us all a sense of renewal and promise. It is always such a meaningful time of the year. I am confident that our Panthers will continue to shine and that our community will continue to witness and celebrate excellence in all forms of learning. I am constantly reminded of the importance of our work together, and the amazing opportunities our students are provided as members of our caring community of excellence at LTSS. Thank you to all students and staff for your hard work, service, leadership and spirit.

Have a great Friday – enjoy your final classes of Semester #1. Again, we hope to see many students at school on Monday and Tuesday for Semester Completion Days.
All the best,
Ken

Traffic and Student Parking
All Panthers are reminded that traffic around the school and parking on school property will be very busy with our increased enrollment and Extended Day schedule. All student drivers are reminded that it is very important to drive with care and attention while on or near school property. Safety is our first priority. Please drive safely and responsibly, be aware of pedestrians, and follow all traffic regulations.
If possible, all families are asked to consider alternative transportation options. Please walk or bike to school if possible. It would also be helpful if students are dropped off a couple of blocks away from the school and vehicles do not enter our school’s parking lot.
Note: For the safety and privacy of our students, please avoid using the Elements Casino entrance as a designated drop-off/pick-up location.
Students are only permitted to park in the Student Lot on the right side of our parking lot near our Portable classrooms. Students are not permitted to park in the Staff Lot.
All students wishing to park on school property must apply for a Parking pass. Application forms may be picked up at the office.
Parking passes must be displayed on your car’s windshield at all times while on school property. Parking privileges will be revoked for any students not following our parking regulations or for unsafe driving.
Thank you for your help and cooperation in responding to our increased traffic challenges and protecting the safety of our community members.
